We have been looking forward to announce this Special event to you. On 31 May 2024 we will welcome the very talented musician and handpan instrumentalist Malte Marten to the HeartFire Space for the very first time!
He will be joining us for a whole day live at the beautiful church De Duif in Amsterdam for a Handpan concert and two deepening masterclasses into music creation using the handpan.

About Malte Marten
Malte Marten is a handpan musician, teacher and visionary. While his music lifts the spirit of it’s audience, his authentic performance and expressive playing approach creates a atmosphere of inner peace. Malte is one of Europe’s best known handpan musicians – known for his positive energy and virtuose playing. During the last years he has organically grown his worldwide fanbase, gaining millions of streams each month.

Handpan Masterclass with Malte Marten
There will be 2 masterclasses on the 31st of May, one for beginners (in the morning) and one for intermediates (in the afternoon).
Beginner (no experience at all TO less than 1 year of playing / people who genuinely describe themselves as beginners):
You are new to the handpan?
There’s probably no teacher in Europe who has more expertise on guiding handpan enthusiasts on their first steps into the realms of expression and music creation than Malte Marten. In the past 5 years he accompanied more than 3000 beginner and intermediate players on their handpan journey.
In this 3-hour workshop you’ll be guided through 3 easy steps that lead you right into group playing, self-expression and a foundational understanding of the handpan itself. The Malte Marten Method focuses on a joyful and effortless skill acquisition regardless of prior musical knowledge.
No instrument needed. No skill level needed. Just an open heart & open mind and the willingness to explore music and yourself a bit more. This masterclass is for people with no experience at all to less than 1 year of playing / people who genuinely describe themselves as beginners :-).
Intermediate (1 year or more of handpan experience / people who genuinely describe themselves as intermediate players):
This 3-hour workshop for intermediate players focuses on self-expression, grooves, patterns and everything else passionated handpan players want to learn about. Malte Marten has not only established a unique playing style within the past 10 years, but also came up with a teaching / learning method, that helps every handpan player to unlock true freedom on their instrument – no matter if you’re about grooves and patterns or rather expression and meditative playing.
This workshop is structured into three different blocks:
– The three pillars of Malte’s playing and how to use them for YOUR playing
– How to come up with endless variations of new patterns
– Open space for your handpan related questions and needs
This masterclass is for people with 1 year or more of handpan experience / people who genuinely describe themselves as intermediate players.
Handpans will be provided for all participants, but you can bring your own instrument, if you have specific questions regarding your instrument / scale. There will be a maximum of 25 participants per masterclass.
Music of Malte Marten
High Chai Tea House
High Chai Teahouse is a mobile teahouse that you will encounter at all our HeartFire concerts. Come home from your trip to the concert and get to meet old and new acquaintances in this dreamy Victorian ambiance. At the bar you can order the tastiest quality products from the Chai Angels.
The hand-brewed Chai Tea has grown famous, and you can only get it here. You will also find yogi tea, fresh mint, ginger and lemon tea. Not to mention all the sweet treats…. Both raw vegan and home-baked cakes, brownies and refreshing authentic drinks.
This bohemian atmosphere bar was designed by Ilona Dorgelo. The High Chai once started when Ilona made cake and chai for friends with a heartbreak. With the theater school and three-star restaurant De Librije as a background, this accidentally grew into a serious concept at our HeartFire concerts.

De Duif is located 15 minutes by public transport from Amsterdam Central Station. Nearby parking is not easy and not advised. We advise you to come by public transport or use your bicycle.
