Kirtan with Krishna Das :: 29 June 2024 @Zuiderkerk Amsterdam
What a gift! The legendary Kirtan artist Krishna Das will be back in The Netherlands for two kirtan concerts on June 28th and June 29th in Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam. He has a remarkable soulful voice that touches the deepest chord in every listener. What a joy to come together and sing our hearts out. Krishna Das (harmonium and vocal) will be joined by wonderful musicians on stage.
Kirtan is a simple and meditative traditional sadhana (spiritual practice.) The practice itself involves repetitive call and response singing between a leader and a group. Where what is being sung back and forth is mantra, sacred names, or names of God. Kirtan is said to awaken bhakti, a kind of reverential and loving devotion within the heart. In India, kirtan is given great importance as a sadhana that is suitable and accessible to all, particularly in this modern age, and this devotional singing can be heard and experienced in a myriad of forms and places. Kirtans with Krishna Das require no previous experience. All are welcome. His kirtans generally last approximately two to three hours.
Krishna Das also hosts a kirtan (on June 28th, here) and a workshop (on June 30th, here).
Tickets launch February 20th @16.00 PM (CET). Join us in live, love & music.

About Krishna Das
Layering traditional kirtan with instantly accessible melodies and modern instrumentation, Krishna Das has been called yoga’s “rock star.” With a remarkably soulful voice that touches the deepest chord in even the most casual listener, Krishna Das– known to friends, family, and fans as simply “KD” –has taken the call-and-response chanting out of yoga centers and into concert halls, becoming a worldwide icon and the best-selling western chant artist of all time. To date, KD has released 16 well received albums, including Live Ananda (released January 2012) that was nominated for a Grammy in the Best New Age album category.
KD spent the late ’60’s traveling across the country as a student of Ram Dass, and in 1970, finally made the journey to India, where he met Ram Dass’ own beloved guru, Neem Karoli Baba, known to most as Maharaj-ji. Given the name Krishna Das, KD began to chant as part of following the path of Bhakti yoga, the yoga of devotion. After the passing of Maharaj-ji, he took solace in music, as well as finding peace and strength in his yoga chant practice.
In 1994, KD started leading chant in public first in NYC, and then to an ever-growing audience of yoga students, and expanding to chant with people all around the world. In February 2013, Krishna Das performed at the Grammy awards in Los Angeles, which streamed online to millions of viewers. The award-winning film ‘One Track Heart: The Story of Krishna Das’ has been in over 100 US cities, over 10 countries worldwide. and is available on DVD everywhere.
KD now travels the world sharing his kirtan practice and wonderful stories of his life, of Maharaji-ji, of his life on the Path, and discusses bringing chanting into our lives through retreats and workshops. During COVID times he has chanted online every week for the worldwide satsang.
High Chai Tea House
High Chai Teahouse is a mobile teahouse that you will encounter at all our HeartFire concerts. Come home from your trip to the concert and get to meet old and new acquaintances in this dreamy Victorian ambiance. At the bar you can order the tastiest quality products from the Chai Angels.
The hand-brewed Chai Tea has grown famous, and you can only get it here. You will also find yogi tea, fresh mint, ginger and lemon tea. Not to mention all the sweet treats…. Both raw vegan and home-baked cakes, brownies and refreshing authentic drinks.
This bohemian atmosphere bar was designed by Ilona Dorgelo. The High Chai once started when Ilona made cake and chai for friends with a heartbreak. With the theater school and three-star restaurant De Librije as a background, this accidentally grew into a serious concept at our HeartFire concerts.

How To Get There
The Zuiderkerk is located in the centre of Amsterdam, so nearby parking is not easy and not advised. We advise you to come by public transport or use your bicycle. Use Park & Ride facilities if you come by car to Amsterdam. The Nieuwmarkt metro station (Nieuwe Hoogstraat exit) is a stone’s throw from the Zuiderkerk. Check the use of public transport here to plan your journey.
Seating
The church is filled with chairs. Also we have space in front of the stage to sit on a cushion. Please bring your own cushion, if you want to sit in front of the stage. No yogamats please as there will be too little room for that. We will create a space where you can put your shoes and bags as we want to leave this space as empty as possible. We advice you to be there in time if you want to sit in front of the stage.
What to bring
The summer days are getting hotter and inside the church it is still warm in the evening. So make sure you don’t dress too warm and bring water.
